dropped syllables

The other day, a friend told me, "I've been hanging with the fam."
"Fam" in this sentence is the word "family" with the last two syllables dropped.
"Hanging" could also be considered a case of dropped syllables, because it is a shortening of a phrase like "hanging around" or "hanging out."
examples from that website are: every, favorite, and different
interesting
laboratory
family
vegetable
camera
mystery
beverage
restaurant
